About My Challenge

This June, a few close mates and I are taking on the #PushForBetter challenge to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health—especially within the mining industry.

The #PushForBetter challenge involves completing 3,214 push-ups over 23 days (June 4–26)—a number that represents the lives lost to mental health issues in Australia in 2023.

We’ll be smashing out our daily targets wherever we are—whether it’s down development headings, out in the pit, in our dongas, or back home on R&R. Rain, hail, or shine—we will reach our goals.

Mental health is a serious issue in the Australian mining industry, particularly for FIFO workers. Long hours, physically demanding work, and the isolating nature of FIFO life all contribute to the mental strain.

As a group of young men just starting our careers in mining, we’re committed to helping break the stigma. It’s time we normalise talking about mental health and remind each other it’s okay to speak up when things aren’t right.

Lifeline WA & The Push-Up Challenge: Supporting Mental Health Across WA

Western Australia is vast, covering nearly one-third of the country, with remote communities, resource sector workers, and FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) employees facing unique mental health challenges.

At least one-third of FIFO workers experience high levels of burnout and psychological distress—impacting not only individuals but also their families and their community. The isolation, high-pressure environments, and extended shifts can take a toll on mental wellbeing.

Thanks to The Push-Up Challenge, funds raised will support Lifeline WA’s critical 24/7/365 crisis services—including phone, text, and chat—ensuring that no one has to face their darkest moments alone. In 2025, our goal is to be the person ready to have a conversation that helps someone feel heard, supported, and understood.

By taking part in The Push-Up Challenge, you’re helping Lifeline WA provide life-saving support across our vast state. Every push-up counts. Every conversation matters.
