Richard Hill

Local Man Begins Annual Push-Up Challenge After Doctors Warn His Arms Are “Mostly Decorative”

After a modest but spiritually significant attempt last year, local man Richard Hill has once again entered the Push Up Challenge, bravely committing to lowering himself toward the floor and, in many cases, returning.

Sources close to Richard say last year’s campaign was less “fitness journey” and more “slow motion negotiation with gravity,” but experts agree that even several push ups over a long enough period technically counts as movement.

“I didn’t do heaps last year,” Richard admitted, “but I did enough that my body filed a formal complaint.”

This year, however, Richard is back with renewed determination, questionable form, and the kind of optimism usually seen in people buying gym equipment on January 2nd.

The official reason for participating is to raise awareness and support a good cause. The unofficial reason is that Richard recently discovered his upper body has been outsourcing all physical activity to his legs since 2009.

The challenge is expected to involve sweat, mild regret, accidental planking, and at least one moment where Richard lies face down on the floor and calls it “active recovery.”

Fitness analysts predict Richard’s push up journey will follow the classic three stage arc:

  1. Confidence: “I can do this.”
  2. Pain: “Why do humans have shoulders?”
  3. Spiritual awakening: “The floor understands me.”

Despite the danger, Richard remains committed.

“This year I’m not aiming for perfection,” he said. “I’m aiming for slightly more than last year, and ideally not making the same noise as a haunted accordion every time I stand up.”

The Push Up Challenge continues, assuming Richard’s arms remain attached.
