About My Challenge
This year I’m doing the Push-Up Challenge. Not just for fitness, but for myself, and in memory of some people I’ve lost to suicide.
People like my childhood mate Luke Middleton, my young cousin Troy, and my friend Tamati. They were carrying so much pain and trauma inside, and they left this world way too soon.
I’ll be doing 3,214 push-ups over 23 days. One for every life lost to suicide in Australia last year. It’s a way for me to honour them, work through a bit of my own stuff, and show support for anyone who’s ever felt like they’re struggling alone.
I’ve chosen Headspace Broome as my beneficiary. Headspace is all about helping young people with their mental health early, before things get too heavy. If Luke, Troy, or Tamati had felt like they could reach out, or had more support around them back then, maybe they’d still be here. I want to help make sure that kind of support is there for others.
I’m not doing this for attention or donations (but feel free to chip in if you want). I’m doing it for them. And for anyone else who needs to know they’re not alone.
Let’s keep talking about mental health. Let’s keep showing up.
Dedicated to: My mate Luke and my cousin Troy, for Tamati, and for anyone that feels along or has lost someone close to them to suicide
Supporting headspace Broome

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.
Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 157 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
