THE book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of a David, the son of Abraham. 2 a Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat b Judas and his brethren; 3 And Judas begat a Phares and b Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat c Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; 4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and a Naasson begat Salmon; 5 And Salmon begat a Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; 6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat a Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; 7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; 8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; 9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; 10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias; 11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to a Babylon: 12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat a Zorobabel; 13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor; 14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; 15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; 16 And Jacob begat a Joseph the husband of b Mary, of whom was born c Jesus, d who is called e Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen a generations. 18 ¶ a Now the b birth of Jesus Christ was c on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Title: jst entitles this book “The Testimony of St. Matthew.” 1 1 a tg Jesus Christ, Davidic Descent of. 2 a Gen. 25:19. b tg Israel, Judah, People of. 3 a Ruth 4:18; 1 Chr. 2:4 (4–15). b Gen. 38:30. c 1 Chr. 2:9. 4 a Num. 1:7. 5 a Ruth 4:21. 6 a 2 Sam. 12:24 (24–25); 1 Chr. 3:5. 11 a tg Israel, Bondage of, in Other Lands. 12 a 1 Chr. 3:19 (17–19); Ezra 2:2 (1–2); Hag. 1:1. 16 a Luke 3:23 (23–38). b 1 Ne. 11:18 (14–21); Mosiah 3:8. c Luke 20:14; D&C 93:14 (3–17). d jst Matt. 1:4 . . . as the prophets have written, who is called Christ. e The Greek title “Christ” and the Hebrew title “Messiah” are synonymous, meaning “Anointed One.” 17 a tg Book of Remembrance. 18 a jst Matt. 2:1 Now, as it is written, the birth of . . . b D&C 20:1. c gr in this way.MATTHEW 1:19–2:9 Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, be- ing a just man, and not willing to make her a publick a example, b was minded to c put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of b David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the c Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his a name b JESUS: for he shall c save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 a Behold, a b virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his c name d Em- manuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his a wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her a firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. CHAPTER 2 The wise men are directed by a star to Jesus—Joseph takes the child to Egypt—Herod slays the children in 1188 Bethlehem—Jesus is taken to Naza- reth to dwell. Now when Jesus was a born in Beth- lehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, a Where is he that is born b King of the Jews? for we have seen his c star in the east, and are come to d worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 a And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he b demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Beth- lehem of Judæa: for thus it is writ- ten by the prophet, 6 And thou a Bethlehem, in the land of b Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a c Governor, that shall d rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had priv- ily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went 19 a tg Example. b ie desired to release or divorce her secretly. c Deut. 24:1. 20 a tg Dream. b 2 Ne. 19:7. c Luke 1:35; Alma 7:10. 21 a tg Jesus Christ, Prophecies about. b Luke 2:21. c tg Forgive; Jesus Christ, Atonement through; Jesus Christ, Mission of; Jesus Christ, Redeemer; Jesus Christ, Savior; Redemption; Salvation. 23 a Isa. 7:14. b tg Jesus Christ, Birth of. c tg Name. d tg Jesus Christ, Prophecies about. 24 a Luke 2:5. 25 a tg Firstborn. 2 1 a tg Jesus Christ, Birth of. 2 a JSt Matt. 3:2 . . . And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. 2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the a palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their b faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good c cheer; thy d sins be for- given thee. 3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. 4 And Jesus a knowing their 17 a gr He Himself. b tg Jesus Christ, Atonement through. c tg Sickness. 19 a Luke 9:57; 2 Ne. 31:10 (10–13); Moro. 7:11; D&C 4:3; 56:2. 21 a gr let, allow. 22 a tg Commitment. b tg Death. 24 a Jonah 1:4; 1 Ne. 18:13 (9–13). 26 a tg Courage; Fearful. b Ps. 65:7; 89:9; 107:29. tg God, Power of. 27 a Hel. 12:16 (8–17). 28 a tg Spirits, Evil or Unclean. 29 a gr the appointed hour. 34 a John 12:18. b gr lands, regions. 9 2 a gr stroke, paralysis. b Luke 7:50. c D&C 68:6; 112:4. d D&C 25:3; 62:3. 4 a tg God, Omniscience of.1201 MATTHEW 9:5–24 thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 5 a For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? 6 But that ye may know that the a Son of man hath b power on earth to c forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. 7 And he arose, and departed to his house. 8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men. 9 ¶ And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named a Matthew, sitting at the b receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Fol- low me. And he arose, and followed him. 10 ¶ And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, a Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, a I b will have c mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to d call the e righteous, but sinners to f repentance. 14 ¶ Then came to him the dis- ciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? 15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, a and then shall they fast. 16 a No man putteth a piece of b new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. 17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. 18 ¶ While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, b My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy c hand upon her, and she shall d live. 19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. 20 ¶ And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an a issue of b blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: 21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be a whole. 22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee a whole. Lewis’s Man
Everyone has someone special in their life who brings them happiness, comfort, and inspiration. For me, that person is my Pookie Bear, Lewis. He is one of the most amazing people I know, and I love him for so many reasons. He is kind, caring, funny, and always knows how to make me smile. However, one of the things I admire most about Lewis is his determination and strength, especially when he took on the push-up challenge. Lewis has a personality that makes people feel welcome and appreciated. Whenever I am having a bad day, he knows exactly how to cheer me up. Whether it is through a funny joke, a thoughtful message, or simply spending time together, he always finds a way to make things better. His positive attitude is contagious, and being around him makes me feel happier and more confident. The push-up challenge was something that really showed Lewis's strength and dedication. At first, it may have seemed like a simple fitness challenge, but it required a lot of effort, discipline, and perseverance. Many people start challenges with excitement, but not everyone has the determination to keep going when things become difficult. Lewis proved that he has the mental and physical toughness to push through obstacles and continue working toward his goal. What impressed me most was how he never gave up. Even when he was tired or when his muscles were sore, he kept going. Every push-up represented his commitment to improving himself and achieving something he set his mind to. Watching him stay focused and motivated reminded me that success often comes from consistency and hard work rather than natural talent alone. Lewis's strength is not only physical. The push-up challenge demonstrated his mental resilience as well. He showed that he could stay committed to a goal and overcome moments of doubt or discomfort. This is a quality that I deeply admire because it reflects the kind of person he is in all areas of life. When faced with challenges, Lewis does not back down. Instead, he faces them head-on and gives his best effort. Beyond his accomplishments, what makes Lewis truly special is the way he inspires others. His determination encourages the people around him to work harder and believe in themselves. Seeing him succeed makes me want to be more disciplined and persistent in my own goals. He sets a wonderful example of what can be achieved through dedication and effort. In conclusion, I love my Pookie Bear, Lewis, because he is an incredible person with a kind heart, a positive attitude, and remarkable determination. His success in the push-up challenge showed just how strong and resilient he truly is. Every day, he gives me more reasons to admire and appreciate him. I am proud of everything he has accomplished, and I will always support and cheer him on. Lewis is not only my Pookie Bear but also someone I look up to and respect immensely.

Lewis ❤️ I honestly don’t even know where to begin because every time I sit down and think about how proud I am of you, I realise there aren’t enough words in the English language to properly describe it. When I first heard you were doing the Push-Up Challenge for mental health, my first thought wasn’t “wow, that’s a lot of push-ups.” My first thought was “of course Lewis is doing something like this.” Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned from being with you, it’s that you are the type of person who constantly gives to other people, often without expecting anything in return. You have one of the biggest hearts of anyone I’ve ever met. You care about your family, your friends, your coworkers, complete strangers, and now you’re literally putting your muscles through torture to help raise awareness and support for mental health. If that doesn’t sum up who you are as a person, I don’t know what does. People see the push-ups. I see everything behind them. I see the commitment. I see the discipline. I see the effort. I see the alarm clock going off when you’d rather stay in bed. I see the sore arms. I see the days when you’re tired. I see the determination to keep going anyway. Most people will look at a number on a screen and think “that’s a lot of push-ups.” But I know that every single push-up represents your willingness to challenge yourself for something that genuinely matters. Every push-up is proof of your character. What makes me the proudest isn’t even the physical side of it. It’s the reason you’re doing it. Mental health affects so many people. Some people struggle in silence. Some people feel like nobody notices. Some people feel alone. By taking part in this challenge, you’re helping create conversations that might encourage someone to reach out, seek support, or realise they’re not alone. That is such a powerful thing, and I don’t think you fully appreciate how meaningful that can be. I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. I wish you could see how inspiring you are. I wish you could see how many people you make smile. I wish you could see how much people appreciate you. I wish you could see how naturally kind and selfless you are. Because sometimes I think you underestimate the impact you have on the people around you. You have this incredible ability to make people feel comfortable, supported and valued. Whether you’re making someone laugh, helping someone through a difficult day, or just being there when they need somebody, you leave every person you meet a little better than you found them. That is rare. That is special. And that is something I admire more than I can ever explain. I know this challenge might just feel like a few weeks of sore shoulders and counting push-ups, but to me it’s another example of the kind of man you are becoming. Someone who works hard. Someone who stays committed. Someone who cares deeply about other people. Someone who follows through on what they say they’re going to do. Those qualities are worth more than any number of push-ups. So today I’m donating $50, but if I’m being completely honest, no amount of money feels like enough to express how much I support you and how proud I am of what you’re doing. This donation is for the challenge. But it’s also for you. It’s for every time you’ve worked hard when nobody was watching. It’s for every time you’ve put other people first. It’s for every time you’ve stayed strong through difficult situations. It’s for every time you’ve been there for the people you care about. It’s for every time you’ve doubted yourself even though everyone around you could see how capable you are. And it’s for every future person who might benefit from the awareness and support this challenge helps create. Lewis, there are 8 billion people on this planet, and somehow I got lucky enough to find you. I got lucky enough to find someone who is hardworking. Someone who is generous. Someone who is determined. Someone who is funny. Someone who is caring. Someone who genuinely wants to leave the world a little better than he found it. Every day you give me another reason to be proud of you. Every day you give me another reason to admire you. Every day you give me another reason to believe in you. And every day you somehow become an even better person than you were the day before. I know there will be moments during this challenge where your arms feel like they’re about to fall off and you question why you signed up for this in the first place. When those moments come, I want you to remember that there are people supporting you every step of the way. I am one of those people, and I will always be one of those people. Whether it’s 10 push-ups or 10,000 push-ups, whether you finish first or last, whether anybody else notices or not, I will always be proud of you because my pride doesn’t come from what you achieve. It comes from who you are. And who you are is genuinely one of the most amazing people I have ever known. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for caring so much about others. Thank you for working so hard. Thank you for never giving up. Thank you for being exactly the person that you are. I could write a thousand more paragraphs and still not fully explain how proud I am of you. So I’ll finish with this: You are stronger than you realise. You are kinder than you realise. You are more capable than you realise. You are making a bigger difference than you realise. And you are loved more than you realise. I am so unbelievably, ridiculously, overwhelmingly, astronomically proud of you, Lewis. Now stop reading this and go do some more push-ups. ❤️ Love always, Your number one fan, biggest supporter, personal cheer squad, and the luckiest friend in the world
