Pushing Through the Pain They Carried - My reason why
I’m doing 3,214 push-ups in 23 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health in Australia.
This challenge is deeply personal.
In 2016, my grandfather, Russell Winks, was tragically lost in a police shooting in Freestone after a long battle with his mental health. Not long after, I lost my uncle, Trent Winks, to the same silent struggle. Two people I loved deeply — gone too soon.
Mental illness doesn’t just affect individuals; it leaves heartbreak and silence in the families left behind. I was young when I lost them, but I still carry that pain every day.
I also struggle with my own mental health. It’s not something to be ashamed of — life is hard, and sometimes it feels overwhelming. That’s why I go to therapy, not just for the tough times, but because life itself can take so much from us.
After my Pop’s passing, Lifeline Darling Downs and South West QLD provided crucial support to my family in those darkest moments. They have since helped many members of my family navigate their own mental health challenges. Their ongoing support makes a real difference — offering hope, help, and healing when it’s needed most.
That’s why I’m fundraising for Lifeline Darling Downs and South West QLD — to help them continue this vital work in our community. The options for help, whether it’s therapy, crisis support, or simply someone to listen, save lives.
If you can, please donate. Every push-up is for those still fighting and for families like mine who have lost so much. Together, we can #pushforbetter.

Supporting Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD

Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland is proud to be a beneficiary of this year’s The Push-Up Challenge, raising awareness of mental health and the impact of suicide in our communities.
Funds raised will help us continue providing vital face-to-face crisis support, suicide prevention services, and essential community programs. Your support helps to empower people and build stronger, more resilient communities and importantly ensures that more people across the Darling Downs and South West Queensland can access the help they need when they need it most.
