Why am I doing this?
Well to be honest, it wasn’t my idea. it was actually my Dad who sent a message to my Brother and I inviting us to join him in this challenge.
When I first saw the message come through I thought, sure how hard can it be? But after a quick test run (attempting my first set of push ups in about a decade) I very quickly realised just how hard this is going to be. My mind immediately went to self-doubt and the thought ‘I don’t think I can do this’ ran through my mind.
But isn’t that exactly the point? The discomfort, the doubt, the challenge. So one of the reasons I am doing this is to prove something to myself and to build some resilience to that voice in my head where the self-doubt comes from.
But there’s another reason that’s far more important. Mental health is a topic that is incredibly close to my heart. It’s my career, area of research and my passion.
Australia has come such a long way in how we understand and talk about mental health. But we still have a long way to go.
So in June I'm completing 3,307 push-ups over 24 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health in Australia. 3,307 is the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2024. It’s a staggering figure. You can show your support by making a tax-deductible donation to my page.
But more importantly, I encourage you to check in on your friends and family. Speak to someone you trust, and access one of the many amazing mental health services we have in Australia if you need.

Every conversation and every donation goes an incredibly long way to making Australia a safer and happier place.
Supporting headspace
headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services for 12-25 year olds.
Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 175 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
