When I was younger, I really hated push-ups. Mostly because I couldn’t do any—but also because there seemed to be a strong overlap in the Venn diagram of dickheads and push-up enforcers.
Over the years, I’ve battled periods of some pretty heavy depression—sleep deprivation, genetic predisposition, sadboy syndrome etc. But somewhere along the line, I figured out that if I move and sweat a lot, it really fucking helps.
Push-ups still suck. But I’ll gladly do 1,607 of them to raise funds for mental health and for the young people of Broome.
This challenge has brought me closer to friends, created space to open up about a lot of things, and kept me focused on moving to stay healthy.
Supporting headspace Broome
headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.
Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 157 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
