About My Challenge

headspace Broome is once again taking on The Push-Up Challenge. Last year, through their hard work, they managed to complete over 7000 push-ups and raised over 2500 dollars for building up headspace groups and Peer work programs.

This year the young people of the service and the Youth Advisory Committee have identified a need for an expansion of the events put on by headspace Broome, the solidifying of groups to allow the groups of last year to stay running into next year, and more professional development for the YAC and the volunteer Peer workers, who keep all groups and events co-developed.

Over the last four years, almost every event and every group has been developed with the direction of the young people and/or the YAC. These events and groups have had a profound effect on the mental health of our community, as well as making it a lot more accessible for young people by reducing stigma and giving a face to the staff.

The groups that started or got to continue thanks to last year's push-up challenge have been a game changer for the service. From the System Restore Social Club, tackling social isolation to the
, Social and Emotional Wellbeing on country and art groups for First Nations young people for reconnecting back with culture and country, breaking down stigma. To the peer group empowering young women and the LGBTQIA+ group, for a safe space to interact, socialize, and discuss shared experiences.

The Youth Advisory Committee and the Peer work volunteers have put in a lot of work over the last 12 months and have wished to gain more skills; as such, a portion of the raised money will help to enrol them in appropriate programs to take their work to the next level.

Every dollar helps #pushforbetter mental health outcomes in Australia by funding much-needed mental health services and initiatives.

Supporting headspace Broome

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.

Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 157 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.

The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
