About My Challenge
My defence career has had many themes - ineptitude, disorganisation, a general lack of situational awareness (all generally my own), but one of the unfortunate aspects has been mental health and suicide.
I’ve had many friends forced to leave the service due to their battles with the black dog, many friends attempt suicide, and a personal low point was being a first responder to the suicide of one of my soldiers: Private Alec Nichols.
For all of those reasons, I’m taking part in the push-up challenge this year with a team of serving and ex-serving members - many of whom are guys I've known since the very beginning of my career.
If any of this resonates with you, I’d encourage you to make a donation, no matter how small. And most of all, I hope the sight of me attempting to do push ups again with my soft, manicured Air Force arms gives you something to have a giggle about. My goal of 3,307 push ups will actually be equal to the total number of push ups conducted by the entire Royal Australian Air Force over the last 100 years.
