For Daz,
Daryl Petty was an aspiring game developer and illustrator from Sydney. As my brother, I fondly remember us having long conversations about anything from obscure philosophies to having a go at our dad. We shared something of a family tradition for trying to avidly debate our dad on anything we were remotely confident about, which was fun in the moment for only one out of the three of us at any given time.
Daryl began to struggle with addiction and mental illness in his later teen years, and ended up distancing himself not long after over arguments our family had. I remember being too young and ignorant at the time to consider the risks of not reaching out. Early into January, 2023, he took his life.
I still remember the phone call my mother received that day. I vividly remember mum telling me how she had planned to ask him to go for a coffee, but never did. I remember wanting to message him about playing a game online together.
There wasn't a day before then where we weren't a phone call or text away from reaching out.
Regardless of how confident you are about someone's mental health, I beg you to take the time to phone someone you haven't spoken to in a while.
I've chosen to donate the proceeds from this fundraiser to Lifeline and their invaluable 24/7 staff, who are also only a phone call away.
Lifeline receives a call every 29 seconds, and over a million Australians a year reach out to Lifeline. If no one else is available for someone you know to talk to, Lifeline is. Any funds raised here go towards supporting Lifeline and their volunteers with answering life-or-death phone calls around the clock.

Supporting Lifeline
Lifeline is a national charity providing Australians who are experiencing emotional distress access to 24-hour crisis support, suicide prevention, mental health, and domestic and family violence prevention services.
Lifeline exists to ensure that no person in Australia has to face their toughest moments alone.
Our experience has shown us that it is through connection that we can find hope. That’s why we are available 24 hours a day to listen without judgement to anyone in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or experiencing a crisis. Each year, Lifeline receives over 1.3 million contacts to our crisis support services.
By supporting Lifeline, you are ensuring the Lifeline network has the critical technology, resources and people necessary to deliver crisis support, self-led support, and counselling services around the clock.
