About our challenge
Mental health is spoken about more than ever, and backyard experts are in abundance. But true understanding is still rare. Too many people are still met with outdated dismissiveness, warped perceptions, or advice that sounds simple only to those who have never had to carry it.
Around 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health disorder each year, while roughly 690,000 Australians live with severe and persistent mental illness. Behind every number is a person, a family, and often an exhausting daily fight that others may never fully see.
Mel and I are taking part in The Push-Up Challenge to raise money and awareness for mental health, suicide prevention, and the conversations that still need to happen.
We have chosen to support headspace because they focus on young people and early mental health support. As a father and daughter doing this together, that matters to us. We believe awareness needs to start earlier, conversations need to feel safer, and young people should know they are not alone before things become too heavy to carry.
We hope this encourages people not just to donate, but to learn, research, ask questions, and better understand what mental health can really mean for those living with it.
Every push-up is a small act, but together they stand for something far bigger, awareness, understanding, and the hope that fewer people feel alone with what they carry.
Supporting headspace
headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services for 12-25 year olds.
Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 175 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.
The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
