In memory of Super Pat
This year’s Push-Up Challenge is more than a fitness test. It’s a tribute — to “Super Pat,” a man of technical brilliance, generosity, joy and a very real impact on anyone who logs onto the internet today and relies on the safety of the identity infrastructure and who lost his life to the silent weight of mental illness. His passing is a reminder that even the strongest among us can be fighting battles no one sees.
We all know those pressures: the demands of family, the grind of professional responsibility, the relentless search for meaning, relevance, and identity. These forces can push any of us into dark corners of the mind. No one is immune. No one is made of stone.
The Push-Up Challenge becomes a way to face that truth head‑on. Every rep is a small act of defiance against despair. Every set is a reminder that struggle is universal. And every completed day is a signal to someone, maybe even to ourselves, that we’re still here, still pushing, still choosing to rise.
The Stoics taught us that “The obstacle is the way.” Not a slogan, but a discipline: the idea that hardship isn’t a detour from life’s path. It is the path. Through effort, through strain, through showing up even when it hurts, we transform adversity into inner strength.
So we push.
For Pat.
For those still fighting.
For those who think they must fight alone.
For the truth that resilience is built one rep at a time.
This challenge is not about perfection.
It’s about presence.
It’s about connection.
It’s about reminding each other that the weight we carry becomes lighter when we carry it together.
