About My Challenge

On 24th May 2023, I lost one of my sisters, Miranda, to suicide.  As you can imagine it has been a difficult period for our family.

My sister’s battle with mental health was a long one, and Lifeline was there for her at her darkest moments.   I discovered the push up challenge and we pushed through our grief with family and friends.

I’m grateful that a close friend, Alex got me up and FaceTimed me every morning while we did pushups, which allowed me to follow through with my commitment.  This helped me get through that very tough time and reminded me why I decided to do it in the first place.

The push up challenge aims to promote the positive benefits of exercise towards improving mental health and proceeds raised go towards lifeline.

I choose to take part in the push-up challenge each year to pay back to Lifeline for the help they provided my sister, and to promote awareness of mental health and the benefits of physical activity.

The push-up challenge target is 3,214 pushups for 23 days in June, which is the number of lives lost in Australia to suicide in 2023 (the last measured year).   It’s important to note that this is not about being macho but about starting conversations, raising awesomeness and improving your own health and I find it’s best if it involves  family and friends.  Individuals set their own goals which can be the full or half amount and to avoid injury alternative exercises are encouraged (I love mixing in squats for my back health).

So, this year I am doing it again and I invite you to join or support the team by following the below link.

Supporting Lifeline

Lifeline exists to ensure no person in Australia has to face their toughest moments alone.
Our crisis support services are available 24/7 to listen, without judgement, to any person in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, experiencing crisis or longs to be heard.

Experience shows us it is through connection that we can find hope. With Australians struggling with cost-of-living pressures, increasing inflation, housing insecurity, global instability, and recovery after extreme weather events, our crisis support services have remained in high demand with our voice and text services receiving up to 4,000 contacts a day from help seekers. Our partnership with The Push Up Challenge plays a vital role in raising funds to support the delivery of suicide prevention and crisis support services at a time where we have never been needed more.

Thank you for supporting Lifeline. Your fundraising is helping to save lives.
