Here's what happened...

So I found a registration confirmation in my inbox this morning.

Apparently at some point last week, past-me signed up to do 3,307 push-ups in 24 days for the Push-Up Challenge this June.

There was no note left, no explanation as to how believe I was going to pull this off.

Just this confirmation email, sitting there, like a cryptic comment left in some source code:

/* make sure you paste that bit here. dont forget or bad things will happen */

But then nothing about what "that bit" is, or what "bad things will happen". Same amount of context with this email. Zero.

I explained the email to my wife who was not at all surprised by this behaviour. My kids thought it was hilarious, my cat was indifferent, and ChatGPT said "That’s a bold target. Let’s sanity-check this.", which at this point feels like the most honest response in the household.

What I did find out from the email is that future-me is doing this to raise money for headspace.

headspace is a mental health service helping young people across Australia. They do genuinely life-changing work supporting young Aussies through some of the hardest moments of their lives, and they need funding to keep doing it.

So basically I do pushups, you make a donation on my page, and headspace can continue doing it's amazing work.

Your donation is tax deductible too, which means the ATO literally pays part of it, and that means you are MAKING MONEY by donating. I don't fully understand how tax works, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

Do it for those struggling, do it for headspace, do it because it feels awesome to help others, or do it for my family who has to hear me complain for 24 days.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Supporting headspace

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services for 12-25 year olds.

Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through our headspace centres in over 175 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.

The support headspace receives from the community helps us achieve our vision - that all young Australians are supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities.
