3307 Is Way Too High
I’m doing the annual Push-Up Challenge because 3307 is not just a number. It represents the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2024 — 2,529 men and 778 women. That is way too high. The challenge puts action against that reality!
Too many men carry pressure, stress, and isolation without saying a word. We tell ourselves to push through, stay quiet, and keep moving, even when things are getting heavy. Not every man is ready to talk straight away, but every man can start somewhere. Sometimes that start is as simple as setting a target, showing up in private, and proving to yourself that you have still got fight left in you.
This challenge does that for me. It recalibrates my standards, reconnects me to discipline, and rebuilds momentum. It helped me in a time when I did not know how to help myself, when words only made me feel more alone. It reminded me that strength is not found in big speeches or perfect answers. It is built by keeping promises to yourself, by getting up again, and by taking one more step when life has flattened you.
That is why I do it again this year, and why I will keep doing it every year. No matter how flat life gets, I can and will start again, build again, and move forward one rep at a time!
