About Our Challenge
One loss to mental health is too many! So this June,
Let's complete 3,307 push-ups in 24 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health in Australia.
This year, our group is about more than just hitting a number. We are pushing to honor the memory of our brother, Shane Bishop, whom we lost last year which hit so close to home in our line of work.
To the firefighters joining this group: this is your challenge. While every donation helps fund vital services, our primary goal is participation. We want to see you on the floor, putting in the reps, and starting the conversations that matter. We show up for the community every day; this June, we show up for each other.
Our Mission:
- Participate: Build the habit of checking in while we get through these 3,307 push-ups.
- Honor Shane: Keeping his memory at the forefront of why we prioritize mental health.
- Raise Awareness: Showing that no one in this service stands—or pushes—alone.
You can support us by
joining the crew and hitting the deck, or by making a tax-deductible donation
to the page. Every rep and every dollar helps fund the #pushforbetter mental
health outcomes we all need.
From google
"Australian first responders face significantly higher rates of mental health challenges compared to the general population, with approximately one in three experiencing high or very high psychological distress. This is nearly triple the rate of the general Australian adult population, where about one in eight experience similar distress levels".
Life-Long Diagnosis: Over 40% of employees and 33% of volunteers have been diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point in their life, double the general population average of 20%.
Suicidality: First responders are twice as likely to experience suicidal thoughts and three times more likely to have a suicide plan than other adults.
The odds are against us, so let's band together and arm ourselves..
Supporting Lifeline Northern Melbourne VIC
Lifeline Northern Melbourne is one of the beneficiaries of this year’s The Push-Up Challenge. Together, Lifeline and The Push-Up Challenge, aim to raise awareness about mental health and the impact of suicide on Australians.
Funds raised will enable Lifeline Northern Melbourne to continue providing their critical 24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention services, answer more help seeker contacts, and ensure any person in Australia who needs support knows where and how to find it.
