About Our Challenge
💙We have joined The Push-Up Challenge - Australia to raise awareness, and we'd like to share why.
Each year around 2 in 5 young Australians experience mental health challenges. Looking around our training room, that means around 8 of our Cadets may face those challenges this year.
The reality is that even those who don't will almost certainly have friends, classmates, teammates or family members who do.
Around 1 in 5 Australian adults also experience mental health challenges each year.
Here in our own region, the issue hits close to home. Between 2019 and 2022, our region was recorded in the highest national banding range for suicide rates.
The good news is that connection helps.
Research is showing that young people who feel connected to their community, supported by trusted adults and involved in meaningful activities experience better mental health outcomes.
Volunteering, belonging and having a sense of purpose all play an important role.
Every week, our young people come together to learn first aid, emergency preparedness, safety and teamwork. Just as importantly, they build friendships, confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging.
We know that push-ups alone won't solve mental health challenges. Our involvement in this challenge reflects our commitment to:
✅ Include physical activity in our program.
✅ Talk openly about wellbeing.
✅ Check in on each other.
✅ Encourage help-seeking when it's needed.
✅ Create a place where young people feel known, valued and supported.
Thank you for taking a moment to read why we have chosen to take part.

The team has elected to support Lifeline, with some individual members choosing to support Headspace Youth Focus Manjimup.
Supporting Lifeline
Lifeline is a national charity providing Australians who are experiencing emotional distress access to 24-hour crisis support, suicide prevention, mental health, and domestic and family violence prevention services.
Lifeline exists to ensure that no person in Australia has to face their toughest moments alone.
Our experience has shown us that it is through connection that we can find hope. That’s why we are available 24 hours a day to listen without judgement to anyone in Australia who is feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or experiencing a crisis. Each year, Lifeline receives over 1.3 million contacts to our crisis support services.
By supporting Lifeline, you are ensuring the Lifeline network has the critical technology, resources and people necessary to deliver crisis support, self-led support, and counselling services around the clock.
