About My Challenge
I'm completing 3,214 push-ups in 23 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health in Australia.
You can show your support by making a tax-deductible donation to my page.
Initially, I was not going to register this year. I thought I had completed the challenge for the past three years so I had done my bit. However, two reasons changed my mind;
1. On 8 April 2025 my former work colleague and good mate, Bruce Coates, committed suicide. He retired from the NSW Police in January 2025 after 40+ years of service. He was the longest serving police officer at the time of his retirement.
Bruce was instrumental in setting up programs in the early 2000's on the Central Coast to combat youth suicide and suicide in general. Bruce was a worrier and with a recent diagnosis of prostate cancer it sent him into the darkness which he could not return. This showed me that so much more needs to be done to support men of all ages.
2. On 17 May 2025 I celebrated the first year anniversary of the passing of my great mate, Scott Molloy.
Scotty passed away from an aggressive strain of myeloma (blood cancer). He was 56 years old (2 days younger than me).
My initial decision not to compete was based on my laziness and belief I had done enough in the previous years. Scotty did not have a choice whether to compete in life any more. He fought hard for over 18 months - after being told he only had weeks to live after his diagnosis.
So, the least I can do is a couple of push ups a day for a couple of days in memory and respect to these wonderful men and many like them that have done their best to beat their demons and diseases.
The hard yards come from those who I rely to donate to this worthy cause so those who do not have the ability to compete due to the darkness and the fog that surrounds them may find assistance in those that can.
Every dollar helps #pushforbetter mental health outcomes in Australia by funding much-needed mental health services and initiatives.
Dedicated to: Bruce Coates and Scotty Molloy
